
Emilio Pérez is a saxophonist, composer, and teacher with a solid classical background and extensive experience in jazz, contemporary music, and creative music.
Trained in Valencia, he completed his higher education in saxophone and later joined the faculty of music and performing arts. He furthered his training in tradition and contemporary music with Andrés Gomis and Manuel Miján, and attended ongoing seminars with Jean-Marie Londeix and Marie-Bernadette. His approach to jazz and improvisation developed alongside Ramón Cardo, later deepening with musicians such as Jesús Santandreu, Toni Belenguer and Daniel Flors.
His artistic activity ranges from classical and contemporary repertoire to jazz and free improvisation, with a special focus on improvisation as his main means of expression. He has participated in various recording projects and is an active part of the current jazz and creative scene.
He is a founding member of the Lírica Big Band, a group with an extensive track record and recognition in the specialized sector, with several recordings and an intense concert activity.
He is a composer and saxophonist for Permar Open Trio, a group consisting of alto saxophone, double bass, and drums, with which he develops an open language between tradition and avant-garde.
In the field of composition, he studied with Ernesto Aurignac, an experience that marked a decisive turning point in his artistic career. Through this ongoing work, he delved deeply into contemporary compositional thinking, expanding his creative language and developing works for band, orchestra, and various chamber ensembles.
He is the author of the book Jazz Colors. Jazz en el conservatorio (Jazz at the Conservatory) and holds a Master's Degree in Music Research and Sonology from the University of La Rioja.
He is currently a tenured professor at the Professional Conservatory of Torrent.
